Arun Kristian Das About Me... I am a Web producer at MyFoxNY.com, the Web site of WNYW/Fox 5 News in New York City--the proud flagship of Fox's network of owned-and-operated stations. It's the home of local news legends Ernie Anastos and Rosanna Scotto, Seinfeld reruns, and the hit network shows AMERICAN IDOL and 24. Our newsroom is the hardest-working in the city. The News and "Good Day" crews put together seven hours of informative, useful, fun, and well-paced news, weather, sports, and entertainment broadcasts each day in the most maddening, challenging, and exciting city (and top market) in the nation. We also love the color RED, as do I. I'm also a freelance writer, experienced book and newspaper copy editor, and documentary video enthusiast. I received my master's degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in May 2001. Under the guidance of great professors who are truly wonderful editors, I reported and wrote articles on a number of topics. I also produced, shot and edited a few television news spots. My most cherished work from j-school is a short documentary (Two Deaths Too Many) about the aftermath of the murder trial of four NYPD officers who shot Amadou Diallo, an unarmed West African immigrant. The piece was a collaboration with my classmate Ron Mott. For my work on this documentary, I've been honored with the second-place prize in the student category of the South Asian Journalists Association's 2001 Journalism Awards. Read a Columbia News article about my award here. Read SAJA's press release. I'm also an alumnus of Columbia College, where I majored in film studies (history, theory and criticism). After college I went into the world of scientific and reference book publishing, where I sharpened my editing skills and attention to detail. After a few years of editing and producing Betty Crocker and Weight Watchers cookbooks (among other kinds of books), I decided to incur some serious debt by attending journalism school to hone my reporting and writing talents. o o o o o
